Kissing the Floor
2022 mixed media video installation; chiffon, chains, projection, LED light, dimensions variable
'Kissing the Floor' is a study of infinite intimacies and tender togetherness. Unpacking the haptic and immaterial ephemera that shimmers indefinitely, through video documentation and installation methodologies. Concepts of queer utopias, phenomenology, surfaces and the expanded body are investigated to discuss fulfilling embodiment and the sentient impetus of the queer dance floor.
Guided by the research question How can documenting intimacy reveal the inherent utopic queerness of surfaces and spaces? The work studies slippery surface interactions. Revealing glints of connections that bind us, cascading through affinities to come. 'Kissing the Floor' documents and embodies the underground, grimy nature of the dancefloor; encompassing the slimy surfaces that are imperative to the fruitful indulgence found inside. I look to the queer dancefloor as fervent with potentiality and dualities; the euphoria, the melancholia, the desire, the yearning; tendencies of a queer existence.
